Magic Uneraser Makes Data Recovery Easier

By: Stas Ermolov

Files can disappear from the hard drive in many different ways. Files deleted by an accident, emptied Windows Recycle Bin, formatted flash cards and corrupted hard drives are just a few common issues to name. In most cases, however, the files are not lost forever. Methods and tools to recover lost and deleted files have existed for many years. However, only in the last few years these tools became not only available to ordinary computer users, but actually usable.

In general, data recovery tools rely on the fact that data does not disappear without a trace. Deleted files are not wiped off the disk, and space on the hard drive they used to take is not filled with zeros when they are erased. Instead, Windows simply marks that disk space as available, and puts the "deleted" attribute to the record in the file system. This, in turn, has allowed tools such as "undelete" to reverse the operation and recover the original file.

While using a viable approach, these older undelete tools cannot handle situations where a disk is corrupted or damaged. If time has passed, and the record about the deleted file is overwritten in the file system, these tools cannot identify deleted information and cannot restore it.

Latest data recovery software such as Magic Uneraser take care of it, and can actually recover files from formatted, corrupted, and badly damaged media. By using proprietary data recovery methods that scan the entire disk, memory card or storage media to recover, Magic Uneraser is able to locate and restore documents, ZIP and RAR archives, emails, music and video files that the simpler undelete tools could not even see. The algorithm employs signature scanning, and works similar to modern anti-virus products by reading the disk and detecting patterns typical for certain types of files. Once a known pattern representing the header of a recognizable file is detected, Magic Uneraser analyzes the file's header and detects its exact length and other attributes. This allows recovering files that no longer appear in the file system, and makes it possible to unerase information from badly damaged disks and formatted memory cards.

Despite its advanced data recovery methods, Magic Uneraser is convenient and easy to use. Employing familiar Explorer-like interface, the data recovery tool makes everyone instantly familiar with its user interface and features.

The available pre-recovery preview displays recoverable files without writing anything onto the damaged disk. The preview is a safe and convenient way to figure out what data should be recovered, and which should be left out.
