Luxury Hotels Austria and Cross Country Skiing

By: David Hurley

Cross country ski trails cover 180 kilometres of wonderful ski adventures in the Arlberg ski area. Most are rolled and tracked nightly and cold, dry snow makes gliding to the door of one of many luxury hotels in Austria a real delight.

Terrain and route is up to you and your ability. For the health and fitness elite steep terrain can have you climbing hundreds and even thousands of feet. Alternatively find a distance run that does n’t contain any steep terrain, gradual rises and gradual downhill’s will open up into tremendous views dominated by majestic, towering peaks that line the small valleys.

Cross country skiing or Nordic skiing is a more isolated experience than the busy, crowd like activities of the fellow alpine skier. The freeheel enthusiast benefits from periods of solitude, quiet where you might even hear the snow falling through the spruce trees. Scenery changes unfold before you, forests of spruce, scintillating snowfields and majestic mountains.

The back country in the Arlberg is there to explore and can provide one of the most exhilarating physical activities that any winter holiday can promote. Randonee skis offer even more opportunities. The less experienced might choose to take guidance and lessons. Randonee skis have bindings that lock down for technical Alpine descents but can be unlocked for climbing or traversing through level snow territory. Detachable climbing skins can be used to ease steep ascents. But the advantages are immense; randonee skiers can make exhilarating back country descents on beautiful, untracked terrain.

For the unsure and comfort loving participants remember Nordic skiing uses different muscles and lots more energy. Great stamina levels benefit those who want to venture out, having said that it’s great exercise, great fun and the Arlberg contains magnificent scenery for the freeheel enthusiast to glide through. Lunch stops and energy breaks are not far away. Picture postcard Alpine bars can be planned and included in even the most arduous of routes. Perhaps a guide would be welcome, local sights; local routes and local hospitality are all available if you seek the services of a professional to keep you on the right trail.

Venturing out on a Nordic ski experience in the Lech area is not to be undertaken lightly. Why not stop in at one of the local ski stores for advice and guidance. Make sure that your equipment is n’t going to hinder the pleasure of making your own backcountry trek and turn it into a backcountry marathon.

Lech is a place of great beauty and exhilarating opportunity. The more discerning ski enthusiast can spend their time in luxurious comfort in first class accommodation in abject decadence. Contrast those luxuries with the exhilaration of a cross country Nordic adventure and majestic ski touring. Topped off with pampering to sooth any tired and weary muscles this will be a holiday filled with great memories.
