Look Natural With Rattan Or Seagrass Furniture

By: Gen Wright

Are you getting bored with the furniture in your home? It's easy to get tired of looking at the same old squarish furniture day in and out. So perhaps you may wish to consider getting a few pieces of rattan or seagrass furniture.

Perhaps you haven't heard of them. So let me explain. Rattan is a natural resource that is used to create natural looking furniture. It is a type of cane that is available in abundance in East Asian countries. Due to its resilient character, furniture made from rattan cane can last for a very long time. In addition, they are suitable for the outdoors. Do you have a part of your home that requires hardy furniture for the outdoors? These spaces may come in the form of gardens, patios or even swimming pools. As the environment looks natural, it's not really easy to find furniture that fits into this setting. Rattan would be a very good choice. Buy a rattan coffee table with a few rattan chairs and set them in the garden. The furniture will sit there innocently and look as if they are part of the garden. Perfect choices.

Seagrass is another natural material that is commonly ignored. When processed and used to produce furniture, it has the same effects as rattan. The furniture comes out looking completely natural. A weaving process, known as wicker, is used in both instances to wrap the material around the furniture pieces. Upon completion, you get stylish looking furniture pieces that are both durable and comfortable to use.

Let's say you are considering buying some furniture for the poolside. Chances are, you have plants by the side of your pool to create a more relaxing environment. Your pool is also in the outdoors, which means that the furniture you place there will be exposed to the harsh outdoor elements. So what would be a good choice of furniture for this setting?

Ideally, you want furniture that is easy to maintain. For sure, anything that rust or rot is out of the question. So you can't really consider steel that rusts easily or wood that rots easily. Plastic (synthetic rattan) and seagrasss would be good options.

Of course, you would be shortening the life span of the furniture pieces if you are to leave them in the sun and rain indefinitely. The best thing to do is to keep them covered when not in use. Fortunately, both rattan and seagrass furniture are usually quite light. So it's easy to move them to a sheltered area when not in use.

In the event that the furniture gets dirty, just use a damp cloth to clean away the dirt and grime. A stiff brush can be used to clear out dirt from within the gaps.
