Ghanchakkar Movie Review
'Ghanchakkar' is about Sanju (Emraan Hashmi) a Maharashtrian married to Neetu (Vidya Balan), a typical Punjaban. Sanju is a criminal who wishes to retire from his career. The movie starts impressing one and all. While Sanju and Neetu are having dinner one evening, they get a call from some mysterious man, who offers Sanju a lucrative assignment, which Sanju rejects out and out but Neetu insists that he takes up the offer.
So agreeing to her, Sanju takes up the offer which is a classic bank robbery with other dangerous criminals Idris (Namit Das) and Pandit (Rajesh Sharma). As seen in Ghanchakkar trailers, the bank robbery is a hilarious affair where the robbers wear masks of celebrities and rob the bank. You need to watch the movie to see how this notorious trio rob the bank. It is decided that three months later the trio would meet up and the loot would be distributed then.
But as we all have already seen in the promos, Emraan Hashmi in the course of time meets with an accident and loses his memory. Now comes the time when the he has to share the booty with his partners of crime but he forgets where the money is. So we have the dangerous criminals staying with the couple, keeping a note of their routine.
All this happens in the first 30 minutes itself. We expected something more meatier to happen now, but it is all over. We knew the entire Ghanchakkar cast, the plot and had seen the well executed robbery as well. So now what more?
Exactly, there was nothing more to the movie.
Ghanchakkar lacks a binding story that could have kept the audience wanting for more. The second half is too boring. We had high expectations from the director, Rajkumar Gupta, who has earlier made brilliant movies like 'Aamir' and 'No One Killed Jessica'. 'Ghanchakkar' does not even touch the standards.
Performances in Ghanchakkar
Performance wise Emraan Hashmi as the lazy husband suits the role, He loves his TV more than his biwi, Neetu (Vidya Balan). He gets into the character and displays various emotions including anger, suspicion, frustration and forgetfulness with complete ease.
Vidya Balan, simply steals the show. She is shown as a crazy housewife with a very weird dressing sense and super crazy antics. Her Punjabi diction is perfect and you will surely laugh out when she says 'Hain' in her accent.
It is surely not her best performance but a Vidya Balan fan should not miss it. It takes guts to take up such a role and hats off to Vidya Balan.
Namit Das and Rajesh Verma too do their roles brilliantly.
Final verdict on Ghanchakkar movie
Since you have no other movie releasing this weekend, one could opt for Ghanchakkar, but otherwise it could surely be missed.
