Is Powermatic PM1500 worth Buying?

By: James Marshell

I purchased the Powermatic Wood Band Saw PM1500 and JET 708119 versatile base on Amazon on the shopping extravaganza following Thanksgiving sparing couple hundred as Powermatic/JET both had 15% discount promotion running. In the first place let me begin by saying I had been inquiring about different band saws including Powermatic band saw and blades for over a year after I sold my old Delta expert saw before the end of last year. My arrangement and hypothetical spending plan was to get the best saw I could for around $2000 out of pocket. This did not keep me from exploring different saws as I felt that on the off chance that I could get a better deal somewhere else I would avail it.

To give you an idea of the amount of examination I did, I took a gander at each model, attempting to go through each review, blog and feature accessible online. I took a closer look at the most normally known bandsaw players: Powermatic, Rikon's, Agazanni's, Leguna's, MiniMax, Grizzlies, JET, General's and even Baileigh. Because of expense and quality, I boiled down to three models - Laguna LT1800 3000, Rikon 10-346 and obviously the Powermatic PM1500. So why did I run with the Powermatic, despite the fact that it was most costly and somewhat more than I needed to spend? The Rikon 10-336 resembled an awesome saw and for the cash was most likely the best value for the money but when I was doing my examination and on the grounds that it was so new there truly weren't any insights on it by any real magazine and no feature or sites I could discover about it. On account of this and in light of the fact that I was spending a considerable measure of money I wasn't certain I needed to take the risk. My second decision was the Laguna LT18 3000 which appeared to be a solid product and for the expense looked like a great deal. There were number of reviews and features for this model and a few praised it while some were negative. While skimming through the reviews I just couldn't get over the negative remarks including client administration, part accessibility, vibration and other quality issues. At last I bought this saw taking into account the following considerations:

• Powermatic’s 15% discount brought down the cost around $400 putting it closer in my budget
• I had about $400 in Amazon gift cards improving the overall value
• Free delivery was a great plus
• Lack of negative reviews and positive recommendations. There weren’t any complaints at all regarding the quality.
• Powermatic’s goodwill and brand value

The saw landed in the planned number of days of course. Subsequent to fixing the jolts holding the saw to the bed, I had myself and two there help me slide the saw off the bed onto the portable base. The saw accompanies a 1/2 blade and mine additionally came with a plug ready to go. Subsequent to unloading the three cases, the establishment itself was extremely insignificant (engine was at that point joined) which just obliged me to introduce the wall which was a flat out breeze. Every one of those first time alterations you catch wind of when going through different reviews for different saws did not matter to this machine. With everything taken into account, it actually took me close to 20 minutes to have this saw good to go. I ventured back at last and observed the saw fully assembled. It looked fabulous! From the overwhelming wheels to the dead level table to the exceptionally solid fence, this thing is amazing with no low quality parts. When I purchased this saw I felt free to order some Timberwolf bandsaw blades as I have read that these are incredible blades for the money.

Then I started working with the saw and found it to be very calm and there was no vibration. The primary cut I made was with some scrap I had, 2 inch thick around 5 inches in length of pine. The first cut I made was a perfect 3/16 inch uniform cut, end to end through and through. I then attempted significantly slenderer cut of 1/64 inch with literally the same results! So, on the off chance that you are searching for a solid saw with the notoriety of great quality I would prescribe this saw to anybody.
