Introducing A Yoga For Kid Routine

By: Ellen Parry

These days, children suffer from a lot of stress. They can amass a lot of the stress from home and in school from peers, their teachers, and their parents. This may not be obvious but whatever kind of stresses a child is going through, it has to be addressed. This can be done by creating a Yoga For Kid routine to help them not only be stress-free, but healthy as well.

Yoga has proven to be very effective in stress-relief and has also shown to help with hyperactive and attention-deficit issues that many children go through every day. Children crave movement and they also crave mental activities to help them learn more. Yoga can provide children with both of these things through simple exercises. Here's how you can start a Yoga For Kid program for your child or for the community you live in.

Determine The Problem

Fist you need to find out if a child has a problem or not. Not all kids suffer from stress and a lot of them just crave attention. Before you waste time trying to de-stress kids, find out if they actually are stressed out first and see if it has anything to do with the home or school environment.

Introduce Your Idea

One of the main problems for a lot of people is that they fear the unknown. Before trying out anything (especially with children), first introduce the idea to them or to their parents if you are a teacher. Let them know that your Yoga For Kid program is something that you want to introduce and something that will definitely help in their daily lives. Explaining this to a child is just as important as explaining to a parent so do not leave anybody who is involved out of the picture.

Teach The Concept

If you have permission from all the people to continue this, then continue with the next step in the Yoga For Kid routine. Define all the steps that the children have to go through in this program. You have to teach that the Yoga For Kid program will help them physically and that it will help them be in control, be flexible, and be coordinated mentally.

Scheduling The Children

At this time, you may have everybody interested so you have to make time for them. You can suggest to do this program in the morning before school or at school if you work in one; or you can opt for an after school schedule. This depends on what kind of schedule you have as well. Remember that it is important that your schedule is also not affected.

Know The Routine

The two most important things in yoga activities are what happen physically and mentally. You will have to find a way to balance out the activities that deal with these two important aspects. One way to make your Yoga For Kid program something enjoyable for children is to separate the two activities. For example, you can have the kids do all the physical activities in the morning, and then all mental activities like meditation can be done after school.

A Yoga For Kid routine introduced into your home, school or community is one that will work. You will have healthier kids that are more alert and more in control of their lives. They will know how to deal with stress and also know their limits of learning because of the yoga that you teach to them.
