Namitha was born on May 10, 1981 in Surat, Gujarat, India. She was born in a Punjabi speaking Kapoor family. Her full name is Namitha.M.Vankawala whose father is a businessman and her mother a homemaker. Namitha is one of the tall actresses whose height is 6ft and weighs 65kg and she is a pure vegetarian.

She is a Bachelor of English Literature degree holder. She was a tomboy in college days who is a confident and disciplined girl. She was raised in Bombay and she was teaching swimming to young children. She become Miss Surat in the year 1988, then she contested in Miss India 2001 where she was the fourth runner up in the contest. After that she did number of commercial advertisements like amul Ice cream, Himami cream - hand soap, Manikchand Gutka and Nile Herbal shampoo. Her stunning looks and flawless performance made the creators to sign her for their projects in the south film industry.

The actress made her entry in a Telugu film called Sontham which didn’t fare well in the box office but she succeeded in grabbing the attention of the south Indian film industry.
