By: Robert Ollis

Math is a very important part of human life. It is used in every area of life. To build an excellent career, to develop science (medical, physics, biology, technology, and more), to lead a normal life, to increase creativity, Mathematics is must. Actually, the importance of Mathematics cannot be described in words. So, everybody should try to improve their Mathematical skill. Here are some easy ways to improve your kidís mathematical skill:

Make sure your kids realize mathematical concepts.
Otherwise, math becomes a meaningless mental exercise of just memorizing rules and doing rote drills. Have your children manipulated objects to figure out basic concepts. In addition, they could add one, two, or more blocks to a pile of blocks and then tell you how many blocks are in the pile.

Help them master the basic facts.
Mastery of a basic fact means that child can give an answer in less than three seconds. Considerable tool is required for kids to give quick responses. Use flash cards to help your kids learn the basic facts. When they do not know an answer, have them lay out objects to solve the problem.

Provide immediate help when your kids need it.
Math is one subject in which everything builds on what has been previously learned. For example, a failure to understand the concept of percent leads to problems with decimals. If a teacher is unable to help your kids, provide the help yourself or use a tutor or learning center.

Show them how to handle their math homework.
Doing math homework reinforces the skills your children are learning in class. Teach them to begin every assignment by studying the textbook or worksheet examples. Then have them redo the examples before beginning the assignment to make sure they realize the lesson.

Encourage your children to do more than the assigned
Considerable practice is necessary for your children hone their math skills. If the teacher only assigns the even problems, having them do some of the odd ones will strengthen their skills. The more time your children spend practicing their skills, the sooner they will develop confidence in their abilities.

Explain how to solve word problems.
Mathematicians have an expression: To learn to solve problems, you must solve problems. Teach your children to read a word problem several times. Also, have them draw a picture or diagram to describe it. Make it easier for them to understand the steps in a problem by teaching them to substitute smaller numbers for larger ones.

Teach them how to do math "in their head."
One major ways to solve problems is by using mental math. Kids should use this method frequently instead of using pencil and paper or a calculator. When helping your children with a problem, help them determine when it would be appropriate to use mental math.

Make mathematics part of your children's daily life.
Mathematics will become more significant when your kids see how important it is in so many real-life situations. Persuade them to use math in practical ways. For example, ask them to space new plants a certain distance apart, double a recipe, and pay bills in stores.

Grocery shopping with your kids
The grocery store is full of math problems. Add to price with math student. You could also give her $5 and tell her you need as many cans of soup or a loaf of bread as possible. The checkout aisle is another great place to teach your child about math and change.

Use Favorite Foods as Math Tools
Cakes, pizza and sandwiches make perfect math tools .If your kids will be learning fractions in school begin with slices of pizza or cake. For example, if the pizza is cut into 8 slices, each piece is 1/8 of the pie. Learning which fractions are larger than others is a great with food. Children can always tell who is getting more cake.

Math fun with ages and birthdays.
Preparing your child for math should begin at an early age. In fact, most people begin teaching their kids math at the age 1. Parents might not realize it, but when babies learn how old they are, a valuable math concept is born. Age and birthdays can be fun for kids to learn. You can start slowly with the ages of Mom and Dad. Then, move to more difficult concepts like, how much older one sibling is than another.

Play cards and board games with your child.
Simple games such as Go Fish and Crazy 8's is a great way for young children to learn the value of numbers. More advanced games such s cribbage and Monopoly are excellent mental math motivational tools.
Play number guessing games.

Here is an example: I think of a number between 1 and 100. It is more than 50. It is an even number. It is the product of 8 times 9.

If you try above activities with your children, your childrenís mathematical skill must be improved greatly and make good foundation of mathematical confidence & proficiency.
