How you know when it's time to shop for new carpet and how to do it

By: Robert Thomson

You live in your home for years and you don't really think about your carpet. Then, one day, you look down and notice that it doesn't seem as bright and vibrant as it used to. You notice some bald patches where the carpeting is worn and run down. This is when the thought strikes you for the first time, "I may need to get some new carpet for this house."

The thought of buying new carpet for your home might seem like a frightening thing for you. Not many people know too much about carpet. At the same time, they know that the right carpeting, with the right colors, can truly set off a room and can really compliment the walls, the furniture and everything else. At the same time, buying new carpeting is a major investment.

The first thing is to decide if you really need a new carpet. Is the entire look and color of the room different from what you remember? The colors of your carpet, reflected in the light and off the walls can really change the way an entire room feels. Does your room feel darker? How does it feel beneath your feet? Does it feel comfortable or can you feel the floor beneath? Are there stains that, no matter how hard you try, you just cannot get up? If so, then it really might be time to start shopping around.

Then what do you do? Well, you definitely want to take your time.New carpet is a major investment for your home. Are you planning on selling your home, or do you have children who spend much of their time crawling around on the floors? These are also serious indicators that new carpeting is the solution. A great resource for finding good installers is to ask friends and family that may have had new carpets installed recently.

Remember that a good carpet installation company will be willing to work with you as a consultant, and not just try to sell you the most expensive carpeting in the store. Since you will want to be able to view samples easily, it is recommended that you find a carpet store that is near your home. That way you can bring samples to the store, or photos of your carpet and walls, and even bring some carpet samples home with you and determine which carpeting works for you.

It helps to have a budget in mind when you start shopping. This kind of information will help the salesman guide you to the right carpet selections. It pays to do your research, so knowing about the various types of carpeting available is also a good thing to have.
Ask plenty of questions to the people you talk to about your carpet. What tools do they use? Do they have references? During what hours will they show up to install your carpet? How long will it take for them to install the new carpet? All of these are good questions to keep in mind.

Once you have made the decision, you just need to sit back and wait. The fully licensed carpet installation service will arrive at your home and remove the old carpet and the padding beneath. After that, they will carefully install the new padding and carpet, leaving your room looking brand new.

It's an amazing thing to see when an entire room changes by the installation of new carpet. A dark room can become a light room. Conversely, a room that is too bright can be made darker with the right kind of carpet installed.

Having a new carpet installed doesn't need to be stressful. It can be easy and, in the end, it will benefit your home.
