How to Buy a Beauty-ful Christmas Gift

By: David Roth

Holiday gift giving is coming up. Does this usually leave you wondering what in the world to give to the favorite women in your life? How about some beauty products they can pamper and indulge themselves with?

There are lots of choices for lotions, potions, and the like, so we want to help you make the best choice.

First, stay away from dollar store and other cheap brands. Cheap products are cheap for a reason. Better to spend a few dollars one only one product that is high quality and very effective than to buy a few with nasty chemicals and sickeningly fake aromas.

Before you buy the first thing you see, here are some helpful hints. Does the woman in your life have a favorite brand? If so, that's a huge clue to help you purchase a great gift. Try something she hasn't used before, like maybe a foot scrub or facial mask or new scent of body creme. Some women are willing to try other brands, but some are loyal to one brand for a reason, and it could be because that's the only brand that works for them, which brings us to the next point.

Do you know if she has any skin allergies or sensitivities? If so, look for items that will help soothe her skin, not make it worse. You wouldn't want your gift to give her hives, right? You might think it odd she sticks to one brand, but it might be the one brand that doesn't further irritate a skin condition.

If you don't know her favorite scents, stick to something low-key and subdued. Or buy something similar to what you know she likes. But avoid strong scents – not everyone likes them.

Now, how to find out all this info? The closer you are to her, the better. If you live in the same house, do some good-hearted snooping at what's on her dresser or in her bathroom.

If you can't snoop (in a good way!) then do some conversation maneuvering and note her comments. Ask her if she's tried this new item in a magazine. Take her to the mall and conveniently stroll by a beauty products store. Ask her advice on buying beauty products for your mom or sister.

If all else seems to fail, you can always fall back on giving a gift card. If you know she has a favorite brand or store, pick up a nice gift card for that store and if possible, go with her when she picks something out so you know what she got and she associates that wonderful product with your thoughtfulness towards her as one of your favorite women.
