If you plants are being destroyed by aphids use soapy water. Simply spray the plant with a mixture of soap and water in its entirety, including its leaves, buds and stems, and then rinse with clean water.

Plant strawberries for your children. You will find that they enjoy participating in gardening if they are allowed to pluck the fresh berries and eat them straight from the earth.

It never hurts to keep a few bags around the house to protect your floors from dirty gardening shoes. Having these available lets you keep your flow in movement, and helps you return to your gardening fast so you can finish up your day.

Use a mixture of six parts water and one part milk to spray the plants in your garden regularly. Doing so will help keep dangerous powdery mildew at bay. The mixture is easy to keep in your refrigerator for up to three weeks. You can safely apply the mixture every day until you have eradicated any remaining mildew.

You know that there are numerous benefits to using compost on organic gardens, but have you ever wondered what it is made up of? It's a mix of grass clippings, leaves, produce scraps, straw, small twigs and wood chips that break down and turn into a "fake" soil. Use this instead of commercial fertilizer.

Pine can make surprisingly great mulch. Some plants do better in soil with high acidity as they are highly acidic themselves. If you are growing these types of plants, simply gather up fallen pine needles for use in your garden. If you spread a few inches of pine needles around your garden beds, when they break down, the acid they contain will leach into the soil.

Before planting your favorite perennials, you must first prepare the ground. Use a spade to dig up some soil, flip the soil over, and finally, sprinkle around 3-4 inches of wood chips on the soil. Let the area have about two weeks, then dig it and plan the new perennials.

Research botanical insecticide formulas, as they are often quite effective in eradicating pests. Natural insecticides are often more powerful than ones that have chemicals in them. Yet, because of their biological makeup, when you use botanical insecticides, they often decay very quick and tend to disappear rapidly.

In order to maximize the efficiency of your gardening, ensure your gardening tools are kept close by you. Put them into a basket you carry with you, or use an apron with many pockets and hanging loops. Tools you'll need to garden efficiently include towels, gloves, pruning shears and other plant-specific tools.

Want to kill weeds naturally? To control the growth of weeds, all you need is last week's Sunday paper. Weeds must have sunlight in order to grow. Newspapers placed atop weeds will starve them from light and they will eventually die. The paper will break down quickly and cleanly, adding to your compost. Of course, you may wish to cover the paper with mulch to make it appear more attractive.
