How Calcium Could Help You with Weight Loss

By: Mark Collins

Calcium is a mineral that is needed in the human body and it is also an important element to a successful attempt at losing weight. By getting an adequate supply of calcium in the foods that you eat, you would have an 80% better chance at losing weight.

The lowest level of calcium, on average, for Americans is 255 milligrams per day. If that is the amount of calcium that you are getting in your daily diet then you are almost 90% more likely to be overweight.

Those people who receive more than 1,300 milligrams of calcium per day in the foods that they eat are 80% more likely to have an easier time with weight loss. It seems that there is a corelation between the amount of calcium that you take in every day and the amount of weight that you can lose.

Calcium is the best mineral for helping to keep your skeletal system in good shape but did you know that this mineral is also very important to the body for avoiding obesity? Just by getting the right amount of calcium in the foods that you eat, you could probably decrease the likelihood of gaining weight by more than 80%.

Calcium is a mineral that is responsible for doing far more than keeping your skeleton strong. Calcium keeps your heart beating steadily, helping your blood with clotting and regulating your metabolism by controlling your hormones.

At times when the body doesn't receive the right amount of calcium, the body winds up releasing an abundance of the hormone known as calcitriol. Calcitriol increases absorption of calcium in the intestines so that your body can get the most calcium as possible from the foods that you eat.

At times when you can't manage to take in the right amount of calcium, your body will produce a larger amount of calcitriol and when an abundance of calcitriol is created, your fat cells make and store more fat. For obvious reasons, this can easily lead to putting on more pounds.

In general, to lose weight, you should cut your daily intake of calories, burn more calories by getting 20-30 minutes of brisk exercise, and get 1,200 to 1,600 milligrams of calcium. Skim milk, yogurt and cheese made with skim milk are some good ways to get calcium.

The relationship between calcium and weight loss is a topic that has been looked at in a variety of studies. Now we can see that there is a definite relation between the amount of calcium that your body gets and your ability to lose weight.

It's a better idea to receive your calcium from the foods that you eat as opposed to getting it from taking supplements. On the other hand, if it seems that there's no way to get the proper amount of calcium in the foods that you consume then it is a good idea to take some form of calcium supplement so that you are getting at least 1,200 milligrams per day.

Though it is apparent that getting a greater amount of calcium in the foods that you eat can actually help with weight loss, it is always a good measure of prevention for you to check with your doctor prior to changing your diet.
