You dumped your heavy backpack by the door with a loud thud. You did it, you really did it. You actually managed to go on a road trip along the East coast for three months. Well, itís not the entire year you would have preferred, but it sure feels a lot better than jumping straight into a masterís degree like some of your friends did, or hunting for a job as others decided to do. You are well aware that your budget wouldnít stretch very far, but you needed a break.
You deserved that, at least.
So on that fateful day after receiving your university diploma, you stashed a handful of clothes and other necessities into your trusty backpack, threw in a map and a guidebook for good measure, and hugged your parents goodbye, promising to return in a few months. It was an exhilarating and exciting Ė the feeling that literally anything can happen. You didnít have a lot of cash on hand, you were going to go on a trip alone, and you werenít even very good with directions. But you did have the courage to go after your dream, and that would have to be enough.
It is true that taking off on a three-month road trip after college wasnít the most sensible thing to do, but then again, you didnít want to spend the rest of your life regretting all the things you didnít do, all the chances you didnít take. While it wasnít exactly the globetrotting adventure by most peopleís standards, it was still a good start, and youíre quite proud of yourself for following through on your plans.
You actually thought about it during freshman year. Three of your closest friends from high school were initially supposed to be with you. Long drive, grand adventure, food trip Ė whatís not to like? However, over the years, their priorities seemed to have shifted. They felt very comfortable in ďthe real world,Ē as itís so charmingly phrased, that they didnít see the need to be spontaneous and go out into the unfamiliar.
Well, you chose the other side of the coin, and you donít regret it in the least. On the contrary, you were ecstatic you made the choice. Your road trip was so much more fun and insightful than you could ever have imagined, and you wouldnít trade the experiences for anything. But now you have to go back to the real world otherwise known as your apartment, and things are not very rosy.
For instance, you need to take care of leak detection in Napa County, home furnace installation, and plumbing in Napa County Ė among a host of other things, and youíre understandably not very enthusiastic about it. Well, if you just get in touch with a good home repair contractor, you can get a handle of the situation without a lot of fuss. After all, if you can survive being on the road alone, surely you can manage to have your apartment fixed too. Itís just a matter of looking at it from a fresh perspective.
