Good Advice for Growing Your Email List

By: Bessmer Vowles

Many business owners are at a loss when it comes to methods for increasing their subscriber list. They place an opt in box for their newsletter on their web page, but when it comes to expanding their email list using different methods, they fail.

Having an opt in box on your web page is important (make no mistake about that) but there are other ways to get people to sign up to your list. By implementing a few different methods, you may be extremely surprised with the results!

Incentive-Based Emails

Offer current subscribers some good incentives, such as a great discount, if they refer friends or family to your list. People are much more likely to sign up for your list if it has been recommended by someone that they trust.

Opt in forms At Check Out

If someone has just made a purchase from your site, they may be interested in receiving updated information regarding new offers and products in the future. Add an opt-in form for your email list for them to fill out once they have made a purchase. You can offer them a discount on their next purchase just for signing up.

Archive Your Newsletters

Add your past newsletters to your website so that people can review them and see what they will receive if they sign up to your list. If people are impressed with the content of former issues, they will be much more likely to opt-in for future emails.

Make it Easy to Sign up

If your sign up form is difficult to find or contains too much information, people won't fill it out. Ask for the basics and leave it at that - email address and name. Don't forget to state that you will not share their information with anyone and you will not spam them.

Keep your List Clean

People tend to forget that they signed up for email lists and then stop reading your emails. When this happens, you will see an increase in bounce back emails or spam complaints. Make it simple for people to unsubscribe from your list, use email list scrubbing services and keep good list hygiene practices in place.

Small email lists are simple to manage, but as your message is shared and you receive more sign ups, you will have to find other ways to keep your list clean. There are many excellent email hygiene services that can assist you with this task, giving you more free time to create excellent email messages to send to your active subscribers.
