After moving from California, Brent Christensen created the whole concept of Ice Castles in 2002. He was looking for novel outdoor activities for his children. First he created an ice skating rink in his backyard. Later he created various formations of icicles. This led to more experimentation with large ice formations in his front yard. His kids called this "an ice castle." He next constructed a cave, tunnels, and a huge slide.
This led to people driving by their home just to see his work. The following winter he was approached by a local resort and asked to build a larger ice castle in their front lawn. This was done in 2009 and 2010. During these two years, over 10,000 came to see the Ice Castle in front of Zermatt Resort. Later he repeated this feat in the Town Square of Midway, Utah, hear Park City. This drew over 25,000 visitors in 2010.
Brest was born in California and met his wife in Utah at university. He has always been interested in creating things, and fixing things. He has 6 kids.
