Florianopolis offers up a good balance of attractions, activities, leisure and sightseeing to those seeking out a vacation in southern Brazil. This beautiful city sits on an island, surrounded by atlantic waters that provide great surfing, aquatic activities and lounging on beaches along nearly the entire island. Each beach has something unique to offer, from great surfing waves to calm waters or from deserted and isolated to well used and centrally located.
Getting to Florianopolis requires either using the mainland to the island bridge, or flying directly into the city airport. Plenty of flights arrive from around the country daily, with most international flights going through Sao Paulo first for customs and then continuing onto Florianopolis.
Affectionately called Floripa by the locals, this island is full of charm, with a mixture of modern, historical and natural beauty all blending together. The city also holds the best quality of life in Brazil, which makes it a great destination for those seeking something new and interesting.
During the summer months, the population of the city nearly triples and finding accommodations can require a bit of work, but deals can still be found. There are many opportunities within the city for any budget, just be prepared to do a bit of footwork. The introduction of the internet has really helped with hotel pricing in Brazil, as the market has been very fragmented previously with huge variations in quality control, pricing and availability. The majority of the hotels in Brazil are all individually owned, whereas most places in the world the majority are owned by hotel corporations. Comparing prices, and amenities online is still in its infancy in Brazil. Most still book their vacations directly with a hotel, or via a travel agent.
When looking for accommodations within the city, consider the Ingleses Praia Hotel, it?s a popular hotel that sits on the beach. Even with beach access, the hotel offers a beautiful ocean facing pool for all guests. The quality of the hotel, along with the location of the hotel makes it a pretty popular choice with many. Booking well in advance is recommended.
The Luisa Palace Hotel isn?t right on the water, but the four star hotel offers up great amenities and a rooftop jacuzzi that overlooks the ocean and much of the city. There are several great beaches within walking distance of the hotel that make the location a great starting place for any vacation.
For a more affordable hotel, the Coral Plaza hotel offers a great location that is fairly close to the beaches, with a pool and playground for children it makes a great family retreat and is still considered a three star hotel. The hotel is further south on the island than most, and in a less busy area of the city for those looking for pure relaxation.
Because the city sits on an island, virtually every hotel has either direct access to one of the many beaches surrounding the island or sits just inland within walking distances of the beaches. The city is bustling with people during the tourist season and most hotels are located well within reach of many great restaurants and activities. Be prepared for a fun time, in what is considered the best city to live in, within Brazil.
