SD cards – the smallest device that hold large amount of data and it is used in several digital devices such as camera, mp3 player, mobile devices, etc. SD cards are portable and can be easily carried from one place to another.

However, corruptions and damage might occurs on SD card due to various reasons and make you memory card inaccessible. And one of the most occurring error is “SD card is Damaged. Try Reformatting it”. This particular error is mostly seen on Android phone.

But, if you do not have any important files saved on your SD card and that you do not it anymore, then you can move ahead and format your SD card. This will fix the issue. However, if you have lots of files saved within the card, then you must not format it. Instead follow the below solution to fix the SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it and recover files from it first.

Solution 1: Clean Memory Card

The very first step you must take in such situation is to clean your SD card. Switch off your phone, remove memory card out of it and clean it with the help of piece of cotton cloth. Also clean the SD card slot in the phone. Rub the metal parts of the card properly and make sure that it is well connected with phone.

Now insert the card into the phone and check if your card is working. If you are still getting the same error message, then follow next solution.

Solution 2 – Reboot Your Android Phone

Sometimes, due to incomplete file operation – memory card becomes inaccessible temporarily. So, you can reboot your phone once and hope this solution can fix your problem.

Solution 3 - Apply CMD Command To Fix Damaged SD Card Without Reformatting

If you are still getting the same error, then you can use cmd command to fix this issue.

Below follow the steps:

• Take out the SD card out of the phone and connect it with your PC with the help of card reader.

• On your PC Click Start> All Programs> Accessories> Command Prompt. Alternatively, click Start and type cmd in search bar and hit Enter.

• After this a command prompt window will get open. Now simply enter the following command - chkdsk [sd card drive letter]: /r

• For example: if your SD card drive letter is E drive then enter – chkdsk E: /r

• This cmd command will start the scanning process and will look for corruption and fix it for any types of SD card errors.

• On completion of scanning process, you can check your SD card whether “SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it” error has been solved or not.

In major situation, this solution work successfully and fix the errors and thereafter users are able to access the data stored within the SD memory card.

But if in case, the above mentioned solutions does not work for you then you can use appropriate SD card recovery tool, in order to retrieve files from SD memory card.
