Fabric Painting

By: Mark Lucasa

Since the ancient days of mankind there have been evidences of paintings or artwork done by men on cave walls or paper to confirm the events that had taken place. During that time it was the requirement to give the evidences to their future generations about the details of the events. But gradually these paintings became an art. Fabric painting has been around us for centuries. It is a rich art form that includes designing pictures on cloth and on solid substances; such as pillars or vases in order to make them more ornate. A long time ago, craftsmen had developed stencils to do the fabric paintings.
Nowadays, there are various styles of fabric painting. The most popular types are batik and tie-dye methods. In the batik method, gorgeous designs, which everyone is fascinated by, are created by applying a mixture of wax and dye together upon the canvas. On the other hand, the tie-die method of fabric painting can be a little messy. This process is just as the name indicates. First the material is sectioned off and tied with a rubber band in numerous places. It is then dipped into the color/colors of your choice. When the desired results have been achieved, the material is rinsed well and dried thoroughly.
Today many people start their own boutiques in order to display their designer clothes which include fabric painting done completely by hand. The attractive feature of this kind of design is that the colors that are used are not watered down. They can be washed again and again. Most people enjoy wearing something that is a little bit different from everything else that is hanging on store racks. A do it yourself project is the perfect way to accomplish this.
