Breast pump is a device which helps new mothers extract milk. Breasts pumps are normally powered either manually by hand or foot movements or electrical devices powered by batteries or by electric mains.

The patent for breast pump was first awarded in 1854. From then many people have innovated on the model leading to the efficient breast pumps present today. The 1st was a hand operated manual breast pump which was not efficient and failed to extract all the milk present. The foot operated manual breast pump was introduced later and was more efficient.

With the discovery and advance of electricity, electric breast pump was also invented. These pumps are normally powered by electric mains but some models are also powered by batteries. They are more efficient than manual breast pumps but are still not as efficient as babies at extracting milk from the mother. Electric breast pump come in various forms. Some use pistons and cylinders to create suction, while some rotary van pumps to create enough suction and fast diaphragm pumps use diaphragms which are acted upon by a lever at thousands of cycles per minute. Electric pumps operate at higher speeds and are noisier than the manual breast pumps.

Typically about 3-4 months after the baby is born, many women use breast pumping to extract milk when they return to office after maternity leave. Breast pump reviews from mothers are all positive, as it enables them to get some flexibility and allows them to return to work as a caregiver can feed the baby when the mother is at office it also helps avoid embarrassing situations at office as the baby can then be fed from a bottle. If in case the mother needs to take medication which might be harmful for the baby then mothers’ can pump and store the milk for feeding the baby while she is on medication. Breast pumps also have multiple medicinal uses for post pregnancy illnesses and discomfort for new mothers.

Mothers feel that the manual breast pumps are best breast pumps for travelling its small size makes it easy for travelling but performance wise the best breast pumps are the electric ones. Breast pump review was lacking in popularity due to the social stigma attached to breast feeding. Most feel that formula is the best way to go even though doctors’ advice that natural mother’s milk is the healthiest. As a result, in the developed countries, number of mothers practicing breast feeding has stagnated and as a result the number of breast pumping mothers has taken a larger hit.
