You may not be aware that dry skin has several disadvantages. Since it lacks moisture and natural oils, it is more susceptible to premature aging and begins to wrinkle fairly early on. In addition, dry skin is often very sensitive to traditional skin care products and harsh ingredients.
Furthermore, dry skin has two subtypes which often need to be treated separately. These subtypes include normal dry skin and extremely dry skin. You may think that this is an exaggeration, but it is not.
Learn How to Take Care of Normal Dry Skin
First of all let's start with the appropriate dry skin routine. Soapy cleansers are not a good choice for dry skin especially considering that soap and water are known to strip both natural oils and moisture from your skin.
If you have dry skin you should use a cream cleanser. Cream cleansers will help remove debris from your skin without stealing excess moisture. Once you've finished cleansing, use an alcohol free toner to refresh your skin and remove any debris that may have been left behind.
Your dry skin care should be rounded off with a good moisturizing cream that can be reapplied frequently during the day. Also remember to exfoliate at least once a week. You can do this by using exfoliating creams or by using a homemade mixture based on grapefruit juice and oatmeal.
Learn How to Take Care of Very Dry Skin
If you have very dry skin, you will notice that it still feels tight and itchy after you perform the previously mentioned cleansing routine. If you feel that this is your situation then you should seriously consider switching over to oils, not oil-based products, but actual oil. Olive oil and rose hip oil are excellent options for treating very dry skin.
Trade your cream cleanser for olive oil. Lather your skin with the oil. Once you let it set a minute or two use a warm towel to moisten your face. Let it set and cool on your face and then gently remove the towel along with the oil.
Immediately after wiping off the oil, apply a creamy moisturizer or rose hip seed oil. This product will be absorbed quickly into your skin locking in moisture. This is all you need to keep your very dry skin under control.
Milk is a very unorthodox natural product for dry skin used to exfoliate it naturally. However, be sure to moisturize immediately after having exfoliated because milk will tighten your skin abruptly.
Finding the right natural skin care products may require some trial and error, however, the results are well worth the effort.
