Considerations while buying a bathroom vanity

By: Vikram Kuamr

If you have decided to replace your bathroom vanity with one of the more modern ones that are available in the market today, there are a few things that you will need to consider. Check on all the other elements in your bathroom, especially the ones that are more permanent ones. The tiles or any countertops and the paint on the walls are all very important. The bathroom vanity that you buy will be dependent on the style of the existing décor. If you are of a creative bent of mind and have a basic understanding about design, it will be very easy for you to pick the perfect vanity for your bathroom.

On the other hand, there are a large number of people who know what they like but are not sure about the designing aspect of furniture. You can always take the advice of an interior designer. However, if you are planning only on replacing a vanity, the chances of you asking for professional advice are very slim. Alternatively, you can take the help of sales staff at the store you will be buying the vanity from. They are experienced and have a lot of working knowledge about furniture and modern vanities.

It is a good idea to take a picture of your bathroom and measurements before you actually set out to make a purchase. Some large stores will also send a member of their staff to check on what kind of furniture you actually need. They will look at the space in your bathroom and offer advice about colors, materials and various sizes of modern vanities that will look good in your bathroom. The contemporary designs will have glass that is clear or frosted, colored, textured or plain. They may have angled or curved cabinet doors and drawers that are a combination of metal and glass.

Other options that are available today are vanities that have no legs. These do not touch the floor at all and are attached to a wall instead. They look very elegant and also add dimension to the room. Though they cover a certain space in your bathroom, it seems like they occupy less. If your bathroom is large with a high ceiling you can have vanities that have legs or that are bigger in size. On the other hand, if the bathroom space is small, you can settle for a bathroom vanity that sits off the floor.

Having bright and light colored tiling on the walls and the floor make the space seem larger than it actually is. For a contemporary look, the tile wainscoting can be set at a higher level and the border can be fitted at that point all along the bathroom walls. It can run right behind the vanity as well. You can complete the modern look of your bathroom with contemporary accessories and fittings. Chrome, glass, ceramic and modern art pieces and picture frames will all add to the contemporary feel. Always keep the area free of clutter. This will help the space look bigger as well.
