Choosing the Right Health Insurance

By: Taylor

Under the Affordable Care Act, having health insurance coverage is mandatory. Every individual is now mandated to have a health insurance policy in effect on January 1, 2014. Before you enroll in a new health insurance policy, we want to make sure you make the right choice, so we’ve created this page to help make a few fundamentals clear.

How many types of health Insurance are there?

Knowing the various types of health insurance options available is the first step towards health insurance enrollment. Primarily an individual can choose from these major options.

Job based health Insurance: For those of you who are working at a company which has 50 or more full time employees, the good news is that your employer must offer health insurance. This insurance will be offered to you and your family members. There are benefits to being involved in this plan, the best of which is that your employer covers a portion of your premium fees.
Public: Public health insurance covers a number of different types and is, most often, funded at the state and federal levels. These options include: Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP and TRICARE. You can learn more about Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP by clicking on the links. TRICARE is a health care program for active-duty and retired uniformed services members and their families.
Individual Health Insurance: In situations where the above two options are not possible, the individual is left to this final option – purchasing insurance on their own. This can be done through the Health Care Marketplace.
