Anyone who’s been looking at Cancun real estate will know that prices are really good. Yet, what fewer people know is that there are options available to find even bigger saving, while still living well. One of these options is fixer-upper homes in the downtown area.

Fixer-uppers in Cancun are inexpensive for the following reasons:

Market attention is on the beachfront – Since the main reason for living in Cancun is the beachfront lifestyle, most buyers naturally look first and only on the beachfront area – primarily the “Hotel Zone” where all the resorts are located which is separated from the downtown area by a large lagoon. This means that the downtown area, which is where fixer-upper homes can be found, has lower demand and therefore more accessible pricing.

Downtown has many services – Cancun’s downtown area includes large malls, international stores, movie theaters, local markets, cafes, restaurants – you name it … . In some ways, this part of the city offers more lifestyle convenience than the beachfront stretch most people look at.

Nice neighborhoods can be found – Several neighborhoods downtown offer close access to many of these services with a walk-everywhere lifestyle, as well as a pleasant, community atmosphere where residents can walk around relaxed and enjoy the warm weather. There are many picturesque areas downtown.

The beach is never far away – As mentioned above, the main reason people buy in Cancun in the first place is to be near the beach; yet the beach is never far away. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive. If you choose not to have a car- which is very possible in this part of the city – taxis are everywhere and cost only a couple of dollars.

The final product is a beautiful home – You can’t forget that the final product of your renovation project will be a beautiful home that is pleasant, beautiful and comfortable. Because of the nature of the market, most buyers live in high-rise condos; you’ll have the rare privilege of living in this warm-weather paradise in a single home.
