Call centre services for small businesses

By: Gen Federico

These days call centres are everywhere. A person will go through one if they try and get a phone bill reviewed or an electrical appliance sent back to be fixed under warranty, to check customer’s credit card details or trace the progress of a courier package. They get a lot of negative press, but anyone who is asked will admit that it’s a hundred times less irritating to talk to a real person than it is to get a recorded message.

Most call centre services are actually pretty efficient. The frustration arises because they are intended to deal with difficult topics, like service problems and complaints. When things go wrong, the first point of contact for any customer is usually a call centre worker. They fulfil a necessary requirement for phone and utility companies, large retail chains, and any business that supplies technical products requiring post purchase support.

Call centres free up other staff to get on with fixing problems by handling all the admin and simple tasks. That way the difficult stuff can be dealt with by a much smaller number of trained staff free to get on with the job.

Businesses that aren’t big enough to have their own dedicated call handling staff can outsource to a specialist call centre service. What’s required could be as simple as a telephone answering service provided by a real person. They are much more likely to generate good will from customers, and who are in turn much less likely to put the phone down without leaving a name and contact number.

Trained call centre service staff can deliver clear, concise messages by email, for example, detailing any action on the phones over the course of an important meeting or overnight if a 24 hour call forwarding service is in place. They can also take calls in relation to a particular marketing campaign over a limited period of time. Under either scenario they keep important staff free to do their jobs without leaving customers hanging.
