Buying camping gear

By: Uriel Kane

Camping is indeed one of the most exciting types of holidays that you can go on. It is about sense of adventure you get when you are out in the hills, away from civilization, technology and other irritating man-made disturbances. If you are looking for something to recharge your batteries after weeks of working hard, then a camping expedition with your friends or family might be the right choice. However, there are some basic guidelines that you have to follow and you also require some basic equipment so that you do not have to go hunting like Bear Grylls. Planning and budgeting appropriately for a camping trip is perhaps as essential as the trip itself.

Getting together camping equipment is not such a big deal. You do not have to fork out thousands of dollars on expensive equipment anymore because there are plenty of stores that offer the same stuff for a fraction of the price. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of stores that sell their camping gear online so that customers can buy from the comfort of their home. This helps in keeping the costs even lower. Apart from this, you can get cheap and really affordable outdoor gear in discount stores and flea markets. It's all about how well you plan and budget. There is really no end to the amount of stuff that you can buy so beware beforehand.

What all will I need?

The very first thing that you need to decide on when you are planning a camping expedition is what all you need. This depends entirely on the type of terrain and atmospheric conditions that usually prevail in the area where you are planning to camp at. For example, if it rains a lot, you might need plenty of waterproof gear to keep your clothes and food safe or if it's snowy, then you need to carry the right amount of woolens. However, there will still be a list of the very basic things that you are absolutely essential no matter where you are planning to go. These are things such as:

1. A nice, sturdy tent

2. Cooking supplies

3. Sleeping bags

4. Pocket knives a 12-twelve swiss army knife is a good option though traditionalists usually prefer a serrated hunting knife (think Rambo)

5. Hiking boots

6. Hunting gear (if you are planning to hunt that is)

7. Flashlights

8. Basic first aid kit this kit should contain items such as bandages, antiseptic solution, asprins, cleaning solution, etc.

Some people go overboard and really spend a lot of money buying a lot of extra items. They tend to carry stuff like air mattresses, lights and lanterns, DVDs and music players, etc. However, our advice would be to keep it really basic and travel as light as you can. In the end, you will end up lugging all these items around and if your rucksack is heavy, it might pose as a serious problem especially if you have to walk around a lot.
