Breakfast Pizza Recipe

By: Sarah Carlye

Pizza is just not for dinner and it just not the Italians. Pizza has expanded to include a variety of ingredients that you may not find in many Italian restaurants or from the pizza delivery guy or gal. There are sweet desert pizzas and even breakfast pizzas.

Skip the toaster strudel and make yourself a sweet breakfast pizza. Not only is it a delicious alternative, it is very easy to make even if you aren’t an experienced cook. This pizza can be put together quickly and won’t take up much time.

The Ingredients

You will want to start by making sure that you have all of the ingredients that you need. These ingredients include:

* CRUST- you can use sugar cookie mix, pre-made cookie dough, or if you have the time, make a sugar cookie recipe from scratch.
* SAUCE-whipped cream cheese or cream cheese icing can be spread out as the sauce. You can use plain or flavored whipped cream cheese. A thick yogurt can also be used. This can be plain or flavored as well.
* TOPPING-Fresh fruit to top your pizza with. While any type of fruit will work, blueberries, strawberries, and kiwis are popular choices. Nuts, granola, and dried fruit can also be sprinkled on the top. If using bananas, slice and add at each serving because it tends to turn brown. Whipped cream can be used to top the fruit.

Be sure to go over your ingredient list when making the cookie dough yourself, so that you have everything you need when you get started.

The Crust

Now that you have all of your ingredients gathered together, it is time to make your crust. This may vary depending upon the type of cookie mix you purchase. Regardless of the type of sugar cookie mix you purchase, you will want to follow the directions on its box. These directions will tell you whether or not you will need to grease your pan. Instead of making cookies, you will want to spread the dough evenly over your pizza pan. It isn’t going to look very thick right now but as it bakes it will rise. Follow the directions for baking as seen on the box. You will know it is done when the edges are golden brown. You will do the same for ready-made cookie dough. You can make it thicker for “pan” pizza. Use a pizza pan or cookie sheet.

You can do this ahead of time to save time. Include time to cool the cookie before the sauce and toppings are added.

Putting Together The Pizza

The last thing that you will need to do is put the pizza together. Once the crust is thoroughly cooled it is time to ice it with the sauce that you have chosen to use. You can begin cutting up your fruit as your pizza crust cools. Small slices of fruit will work best.

After you are done with this you will want to take the slices of fruit and place them onto your pizza. You can do a ring of one fruit and then another, in order to form a pattern, if you would like. Another option is to just place the fruit on the crust sporadically. If you know of any food allergies or special preferences you could also make sections or divide your pizza into half of one fruit and half of another. Whip cream can be on the side or put on the top of the pizza.

This breakfast pizza can also be a dessert pizza. You can enjoy your pizza for breakfast on a day off, at a party, or shared with some friends. Of course, it would also make a nice snack just for you to enjoy, as well. Regardless of how you plan on enjoying it, breakfast pizza is quick and easy to make.

This pizza also makes a fun desert after eating pizza at an Italian restaurant, like Mama Jennie’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria. You can also have everyone make personal desert pizzas after a catered Italian meal from Mama Jennie’s.
