Benefits of Chai Tea and White Tea

Tea drinking has been a popular drink for centuries in a lot of countries, but in the last few years, it has gained even more popularity. Chai tea is what the westerners call the spiced Indian-style tea, which is actually more popular in India than coffee. White tea is made out of the camellia sinensis plant and it has a light and sweet taste. Both of these types of tea are very healthy and we will discuss them further on in this article, so please read on if you are interested.

As we said, white tea is made out a plant called camellia sinensis, which is actually used to produce a lot of other teas. The difference between these is that in making this specific type of tea, the leaves have to be harvester much earlier, when the leaves are not fully opened. At the point of harvesting these leaves, the tea buds are covered by fine white hair. This is where the name of the tea actually comes from. This type of tea is not grown and harvested as much as the other varieties of tea and therefore, you may find it to be a bit more expensive than the black, green or oolong teas. Historically speaking, this type of tea was only used in the highest tea ceremonies, such as those for weddings teas or dignitaries.

Another difference between white tea and other varieties such as oolong tea or black tea, is that it undergoes very little processing and is not fermented. The leaves are just simply steamed and then dried. Sometimes, some tea artisans may even steam the leaves right in the field and then let them dry in the sun, so as to help protect the delicate flavor of this type of tea.

On the other side of the tea plantation, you can also find people making chai tea. This type of tea is actually a very good substitute for coffee and its popularity in the world is growing every day. Of course, in some parts of the world you will find some changes to the traditional receipt. For example, in the United States you will find a sweeter and creamier version known as ‘chai latte’.

The reason why a lot of people turn to drinking chai tea instead of coffee is because it contains a smaller amount of caffeine. A normal cup of this type of tea contains approximately 40 mg of caffeine, while an average cup of coffee contains 120 mg. Furthermore, there is also a difference in how the caffeine seems to work, due to a component called tannin, which has a calming effect on the nervous system. The caffeine is absorbed much slowly inducing a calm, yet focus state of mind.
