Be Gentle! Treat your Skin with Natural Skin Care Products

By: Abigail Mckenzee

Acne is one of the biggest problems that adolescents face as during puberty hormone levels rise and sebum production increases. The excess sebum mixes up with dirt and dead skin cells to clog pores and lead to acne.

Luckily, there are several products that you can use to treat your acne problems. In fact, if you're the more adventurous type you can actually make your own natural acne treatment products. This is a great alternative to traditional products because natural ones are less prone to produce irritation and can be just as effective as traditional skin care products.

If you are interested in natural skin care and homemade products, here is a small overview. There are a lot more recipes on the Internet that can be used. Just keep in mind that you should always do a patch test before using any type of product, even natural ones.

Honey: A Natural Anti-Bacterial Ingredient

Honey has been used as an anti-bacterial product and acne treatment for centuries. Due to its low water content and acidic pH level, it is a poor environment for the growth of bacteria.

Take a mixing bowl and add 1 1/2 a cup of baking soda and 1 1/2 cup of water. Mix well. If the mixture is too runny add more baking soda. If the mixture is too thick, then add more water. After having completed this step, grate one half of a cucumber and add it to the mixture.

In a separate bowl, begin mashing up two apple slices until they form a paste. Add this paste to the baking soda mixture. Mix well before adding 1 tablespoon of honey.

Aloe Vera Gel: One of Nature's Acne Solutions

The watery gel from this succulent is very effective against acne. It is very rich in enzymes and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Aloe vera can also be ingested so that it cleanses your skin from the inside out.

Tea Tree Oil: A Relatively New Acne Treatment

Tea tree oil comes from an Australian tree, Melaleuca alternifolia. This substance is used primarily for its antiseptic and bacterial properties. This is also why tea tree oil is great for acne as it can help eliminate common acne bacteria.

Tea tree oil is a natural oil and, should therefore not cause any side-effects, however, it has been known to irritate sensitive skin, so proceed with caution.

These properties help make honey an effective treatment against acne and is the main reason treatments such as honey masks can eliminate acne bacteria and reduce your chances of having acne breakouts. In fact, honey is also a good alternative because it is gentle on your skin and will not lead to irritation.

No matter which type of treatment you choose what really matters is that you find an acne treatment cream that is right for you and can effectively treat acne problems and avoid possible acne scarring.
