Basic Bodybuilding: Choose Your Gym

By: Sean Nalewanyj

Once you've decided to take up bodybuilding, you need to choose a gym that can meet your requirements. Selecting the right gym is crucial when it comes to basic bodybuilding, because your choice will have a direct effect on your results.

1) Location.

Ideally you should pick a gym for basic bodybuilding that is near your home or one that is on the way to your workplace. This helps ensure that it's convenient to get there and that you have one less excuse not to go. If getting to your gym involves a long drive or commute, you will end up skipping more workouts because you will be less inclined to go there.

2) Cost.

It shouldn't cost an arm and a leg for your basic bodybuilding gym membership.

Pay close attentions to contracts and avoid signing up for long-term membership plans.

You can even get great deals on basic bodybuilding membership plans, especially during late summer or right after New Year's Day. You may even be able to get extras such as nutrition counseling, trainers, fitness testing, massage therapy, day care options, and physiotherapy.

Also ensure that your basic bodybuilding fitness center is open at a time the time when you are most likely to work out; this is especially important if you work out early in the morning or late at night.

3) Demographics.

Make a note of the demographics at the basic bodybuilding center. You don't want to join a gym that focuses mainly on cardio and yoga because the majority of its clients are women. Even a gym that caters mostly to hardcore bodybuilders is not necessarily the best option; although you'll find the right equipment there, working out with the pros during your basic bodybuilding phase can be a little scary.

In addition to having a good selection of weight training and cardio equipment, the ideal gm should also have an atmosphere that is conducive to training.

4) Trainers.4) Trainers.

Check to see if the gym has qualified trainers; they are very important when it comes to basic bodybuilding. Qualified trainers are a must at any good gym. Never underestimate the importance of qualified trainers at a gym. Also ensure that the trainers are certified in basic bodybuilding.

5) Equipment.

You need to pay attention to the quality and type of equipment you find at your gym. Are the number of dumbbells and barbells enough for everyone? Are there enough weight machines for everyone? Are there a sufficient number of treadmills, elliptical trainers, stair climbers, and stationary bicycles to meet your cardio requirements?

You need to make sure that your gym is well-stocked with all the equipment that you will use in your basic bodybuilding routine.

6) Hygiene.

The hygiene and cleanliness of the facility is also important. With so many people dripping sweat everyday, it is crucial that all the equipment is cleaned on a regular basis.

It's best if all the equipment is cleaned with a disinfectant every night; the lockers and showering area should be clean too. You'll realize the importance of this advice when you have to do your basic bodybuilding exercises on a smelly bench.
