Barcelona draw first blood against arch rivals Real Madrid in a friendly match ahead of the season

Barcelona 3 : Real Madrid 2; this was the final score line in a friendly match in a pulsating Classico friendly match held recently in Miami. The two of the greatest football club teams who have been historic rivals will meet again twice in August 2017 in the Spanish Super Cup and this International Champions Cup match. This friendly match set the entertainment bar high and it was Pique’s strike which finally sealed victory at this fiercely contested clash.

Madrid missed the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo:

Madrid of course missed the services of ace football star Cristiano Ronaldo. He was still on a holiday. Apart from him however, both the teams were almost close to the usual full strength. The manager of Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde got a taste of the classic drama quite early in his career. He selected Brazilian super star Neymar in spite of the speculation regarding his future with Barcelona.

Messi opened the scoring and Barcelona extended lead; but Madrid fought back:

However Messi opened the scoring just three minutes into the match. He beat Luka Modric and fired home with his strike deflecting of Raphel Varane and thereafter beating Keylor Navas. Barcelona looked the more dominant of the two sides in the match and extended their lead with the help of Suarez and Neymar for the second goal.

However Madrid fought back hard. This was by Mateo Kovavic drilling a goal past the expert Jasper Cillenssen from the edge of the area. The sellout crowds at the Hard Rock Stadium were in for a thrilling encounter between the two of the greatest football club teams. Thereafter in the 36th minute of the match Real Madrid tied up the game 2-2 , and the same score continued till half time.

Pique’s flick finally sealed victory for Barcelona with a 3-2 Score line:

It was in the 50th minute of this thrilling match that Pique’s flick from Neymar’s curling free kick that finally sealed victory for Barcelona. Just prior to this however Neymar had missed a great goal scoring opportunity from a very close range for Barcelona. Luis Suarez was denied a goal by Navas and thereafter Samuel Umtiti had a strike cleared off the line. Following a 3 is to 2 lead against real Madrid, Barcelona were determined not to let the unassailable lead slip. As a result of this the match ended with a 3 is to 2 victory or Barcelona. It was a closely contested match but the domination of Barcelona was somehow visible in this very exciting football match.

Though this was a friendly match but special in a way since this was the first time that the two teams met in a friendly match since 1991. This was only the second time that this happened outside Spain. Given the great spectacle more such friendly matches are likely to be held between the two in the future ahead.
