Make sure you understand the contract well ahead of signing the document while hiring the Au Pair. Also make sure that the Au Pair too will understand the terms and conditions well ahead of signing it. Communicate with these personnel to check if they have rightly understood and are willing to execute all the work that is mentioned in paper, ahead of hiring them. Making things transparent right from the scratch or giving a far more bigger picture of what is that you are expecting out of the Au Pair, will ensure that there is no problem in the future.

After that when you have taken them to your home, you could even extract only lesser amount of work from them, they will be happier in that way. On the contrary, if you give them a lighter idea about the actual work involved in your facility and ask them to do more work when they turn up to your facility, it could be a disagreeable pact under most of the time. If the Au Pair is not satisfied with the salary, or not feeling comfortable to execute too much work in the house of yours, rather than what is expected, then the tenure might be broken in between too. The contract might well have to be cancelled in that case. It could a failure for both the recruiter as well as the Au Pair in one such case.

It is why you need to be frank while talking to these people well in advance. Keep a session directly to talk and communicate to them very clearly on what you expect out of the Au Pair. If they are not conversant in English well, then you could ask the translator or an interpreter to explain things well.

Ask the Au Pair if they will be able to work for the period that is mentioned in the contract continuously or not, in the first place. There might be emergencies that might arise in between too. What could be done in such cases and how would they face such situations and what kind of cooperation is expected in such a situation, should all be discussed well in advance ahead of signing in the contract.

Au Pair, at the young and tender age of 18 to 30 might be physically fit enough to work hard, but not be that intelligent enough to understand the needs to perfection. You got to explain them things in advance to make things clear for the benefit of both you and the e Au Pair.
