Anti Aging Skin Care Products Some Food For Thought

By: Steven McCarthy

A couple years ago it was reported that Americans bought over six billion dollars of anti aging skin care products. Many of these products were bought over the counter at drug stores and department store cosmetic counters with the advice of a store clerk. Times change and now people are busier than ever and don't have the time to get in their car drive to the store read labels ask questions compare products to try and reach a decision on which product to try.

The internet is here to stay, and everyday more people are waking up to the convenience of researching and shopping online. They research the products online from the comfort of their home until they have decided which product best suit's their need's then order it online and have it shipped to their home or office most products offer a money back guarantee just check the length of the guarantee as they vary from website to website.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, they say. There are anti aging skin care products for people in their 20s or 30s that may stave off unsightly lines and wrinkles from developing, while encouraging the body to continue its natural skin rejuvenation regiment. Watch your exposure to the sun's UV rays, there is no substitute for using sunblock or just steering clear of the sun between noon and 3 pm. An SPF of 45 blocks out harmful UV rays by 99%, according to Cornell University. Try using a moisturizer daily to re-hydrate and heal damaged skin. A crucial weapon in combating combating environmental stress factors like pollution and cigarette smoke is Antioxidants. Antioxidants can include amino-peptides, green tea extract, coenzyme Q10, vitamin C and vitamin E.

Skin aging is not always caused by skin tightening. Another sign of aging is the emergence of acne, age spots or skin discoloration. For this, topical retinoids may calm a skin breakout caused by fluctuating hormones. encouraging skin cell turnover by using Alpha or Beta Hydroxy exfoliants will reveal a more radiant glow. Hydroquinone is an effective skin bleaching cream that gradually removes age spots too. If you have a severe case your dermatologist can do a microdermabrasion procedure for around $200, by sanding the dead skin cells off stimulating new skin cell growth. Laser surgery is a more expensive procedure that essentially does the same thing but offers less risk of scarring or skin damage.

A few years ago, Americans purchased $6.4 Billion worth of anti aging skin care products (also referred to as "cosmeceuticals.") Most of these products are purchased over-the-counter without a prescription, although that can make it more difficult to select an effective solution that works. There are some options you can educate yourself on, but if you feel particularly overwhelmed staring at an entire aisle full of dry skin care products, such as anti wrinkle creams, retinoids, exfoliants, alpha hydroxys and wrinkle reducer face washes, then you may prefer a consultation with a licensed dermatologist first.

You may have also noticed a wrinkle reducer cream among the skin care products. These are generally comprised of cell damage reversing antioxidants like vitamin A ( retinoids), B, C or E that are intended to neutralize free radicals and stimulate your body's natural collagen production. As you know, collagen injections are a popular and relatively inexpensive way of bolstering your skin's rejuvenation process.

The bad news about anti aging skin care products is that " cosmeceuticals" are not a strictly regulated sector of the medical industry. While on one hand, all products must be FDA-approved before making it to the shelves; their efficiency doesn't need to be repudiated with research in order to be sold. When you're shopping, be realistic about the achievable results. Even laser surgery can't make a fifty year old look twenty again. However, most people who didn't spend half their lives cooking themselves in the sun can expect to shave off ten years from their appearance.

When conducting scientific research, a scientist will only believe in independent research studies published in reputable medical journals. Yet, almost NONE of the cosmetic companies conduct independent studies on the efficacy of their anti-aging skin care products to fight wrinkles. Except LifeCell who has had independent studies done by Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Oxford with impressive results.
