Alternative fuel and firewood pellets to challenge global warming

Global warming and climate change are issues which have an effect on us each and every one, and which we are contributors and also activists. Climate change is mainly a man made consequence through our extreme and increasing use of fossil fuel fuel. Fossil fuels in the form of gas, oil and coal are trapped forms of carbon energy, stored deep below the earth?s surface. They are shaped from natural matter, and through thousands and millions of years of high temperature and force create fossil fuels. When we extract fossil fuels and burn them, we are reintroducing this trapped carbon into the atmosphere. This supplementary carbon dioxide then acts --------------- a giant blanket in the environment. As the suns energy enters the environment to heat the earth, the carbon then reflects this energy back at the earth, increasing temperatures. As we keep on to use fossil fuels, this effect will continue to increase. However we have a further issue on the horizon in the conditions of food shortages, and growing global population. Currently the solution to the global food issue is to increase large-scale farming. However large-scale farming relies of large quantities of oil to produce the fuel for tractors etc, and also all fertilizers. Consequently there is a catch 22 situation in terms of fuel and food production. The reply to both issues is one and the same, small scale and local fuel and food production where possible.

Local biomass raw supplies such as wood, straws and grasses from agriculture can be processed into fuel by upgrading the supplies locally into pellets. These pellets can then be used in pellet stove and boilers to supply heat, and also used in gasification system to make electricity. Not only will this address part of the local energy production process in terms of heat and electricity, it can also address transport fuels. Through pellet gasification, it is achievable to feed this gas to bacteria and algae to produce liquid fuels such as ethanol. So on a local scale it is potential to produce heat, electricity and transport fuels. Costs to the customer can be kept low as transport of energy is kept to an utter minimum. Also through this sector a large number of permanent jobs would be created.

So this may address the issue of energy, how does it deal with the issue of food production? Put simple from using the pellets in stoves and boilers, and gasification units to produce electricity or ethanol, has a by-product. The by-product is ash, and bio-char. These resources have been confirmed to be excellent soil conditioners, even to be able to get back desert land, by bring life back to the soil. The straightforward point to take from these ideas is the answers are out there, and are proven to work, we need to do something. Not only will it tackle energy and food issues, it will bring better prosperity to us all.
