You know you should get some form of exercise that you know all the health benefits that come with a more active lifestyle. You've tried everything Gym, but it was not for you. The temptation to sit in front of the TV, to curl with a good book or spend some extra time on your computer is simply too great. Who wants to head the gym right now anyway?
There are many other opportunities to become more active, which does not include jogging, weight lifting or other "traditional" ways of working. Here are some ideas to get you moving
1) Chase your kids in the yard
You'd be surprised how much work is going to catch up with their children. Time flies when you're having fun and your children can spend time with you. Just go play.
2) Set up the music and dance around the room
When you are dusting, putting up dishes, straightening up children's rooms, or when you are sitting too long to play some of your favorite upbeat music and dancing around the house. Not only do you get your heart rate, but also have fun doing some of these matters.
3) Plant flowers
When the weather is good, just go out and plant flowers. Or you can start a small vegetable garden, trim hedges, cut grass, or plant a tree. You get the idea. Just get out there, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and play in the dirt. Yes, it does count as exercise in our book.
4) take a walk with a friend
Walk and invite a friend to come. I had some of the best conversations while walking. Learning to speak with a friend makes the time fly by and before you know you've been walking for 30 minutes.
5) listening to music or an audiobook while you go
Again, keep your mind on something else will take the time to fly and that's out the additional pleasure of your walk. You may even consider an MP3 player. You can add what you want to go and listen to your foot.
6) Sign up for yoga or Pilates class
Consider starting a yoga or Pilates. Both exercises are low impact and will not let you sweat and bad (mostly). You can also enjoy meeting new people from the class.
7) take some dance lesson with your partner
Ok, here's the hard part: convincing the partner to take some dance lessons. Dancing gives you the right exercises and just plain fun and of course romantic. Think of all the options here. You can take any ballroom dance, group dance, Latin etc. Pick something that sounds like fun to you and go for it. You will enjoy more time with your partner as well.
8) Go for a swim or a local YMCA Aquatic Center
Swimming is a major user. And 'low impact and easy on the joints. He began swimming a few laps, or play pool with your children.
9) Take a bike ride
Take the whole family for a bike ride. You can drive through the neighbourhood at night or plan a longer trip over the weekend. Pack a picnic to have fun and start peddling.
10) Go On a Hike
Find some of the trails in your area and go for a walk. This could be a fun activity for you and a friend, or take the whole family. Start some easy trails and work yourself up to some longer or steeper trails.
Go ahead, choose one or two activities and get started. I'm sure you'll come up with many versions of your choice. The key is finding something you love so you can stick with it. Go out and get started today.
