Ever wondered why the terror attack rates have increased so much in the past few decades? Terrorism has been on the rise ever since the twin towers got attacked in the USA. Cyber crimes and attacks are increasing each day and many a times, they are done in such a way that the concerned individual or party or the organization does not get to know about it at all.
The world is going digital and the dependency upon the internet and gadgets are increasing by leaps and bounds. From entertainment and shopping to transportation and medicine, everything today revolves around the cyberspace. No doubt it has made the complex lifestyle of individuals simpler and easy but the security that they once had is reducing as every little detail of their important accounts can be accounted upon through the internet itself by the hacker. It is as if one is living under scrutiny, the personal life is no longer personal, its going public. This has increased more by the virtue of social networking sites where students, professionals and others socialize by exchanging or displaying information about themselves. Therefore, schools and colleges are planning to include information and IT security as part of their curriculum as there is a need of cyber security in engineering courses and teach them in detail.
The government has taken the initiative of introducing special curriculum in engineering and management institutes with a disciplinary center. According to the national security advisory board's recommendations and suggestions, capacity building should be inherited by everyone. This way they can educate and spread the required awareness amongst the students, who would be more exposed to such situations. So this way they would be able to prevent many cyber attack thefts from initializing in the first place.

There are talks about plans of setting up of an institution similar to ICAI, which would aim to make cyber security audits compulsory for organizations under the Companies Act. There have been many incidents in the past where the theft had already been made or occurred without the concerned party or individuals being aware about it. A case in point is the CEO of ITC, whose confidential computer data was being scrutinized but they got to know only after an year.

IT and information security experts and consultants are planning to come up with a thorough strategy, which would include a four step pilot project from setting up of labs, conducting the audits, studying them and establishing a par excellence center. India has finally woken up to the increase in the cyber crime and have taken the cue from countries such as USA, who have been involved in prevention of cyber strikes and other conventional attacks revolving around them.

The need of cyber security in engineering courses has become the necessity of the hour and this can help them from getting victimized themselves in the coming future. The important point is to come up with strict and effective countermeasures so that one can detect the theft from the scratch and prevent them from taking place. This has been done brilliantly by the adviser of national security.
